Water Quality Issues : Designated Use

The Designated Use function lets stakeholders indicate how water resources are to be used. Each river segment and reservoir may have one or more uses. Examples include body contact recreation (swimming, water skiing), cold water or warm water fish habitat, fish spawning areas, and public water supply.

To create a new use type for the watershed, select a row in the box without an designated use. Then type in the name of the designated use. Then click on the rivers and reservoirs on the map behind the dialog box to indicate to which parts of the watershed the designated use applies. Hold the shift key down when clicking to select more than one river or reservoir segment. To select all rivers or reservoir segments in the watershed, go to the Edit menu and choose Select All Rivers or Select All Reservoir Segments. To save the designated uses chosen and return to the Consensus Road Map, click OK.
