Catchment Mining Permits When there are deep or surface mines in a catchment, a portion of the mine discharge can be designated to be from permitted point source mine discharges. The following dialog is accessed from the Soil Mining Coefficients:
To add a mine, click in the spreadsheet (even if it is currently blank) and press Ctrl+Ins. To delete a mine from the list, press Ctrl+Del. Enter the name of the mine in the left-most column. In the next column, enter a file name for the simulated output from the mine, if desired. In the third column, enter the percent of mined area (either deep or surface) occupied by the mine. Loading from the permitted mines is treated as point source loading. To set a concentration limit for any parameter for the permitted mine, enter the appropriate concentration. Constituents which are not to be restricted should be left blank. There are two options for using the concentrations. Concentrations are maximum forces the mine output concentration to the specified value if it would otherwise be higher. Concentrations are fixed indicates that the concentration of specified constituents will always be at the specified value. To delete an existing concentration, click on it and then press Ctrl+X.
Note: the simulated output for a specific mine reflects only the portion of mined area represented by that mine. The output concentrations of all mines of a given type in a given catchment are the same because of the model’s representation of catchment layers as mixed reactors.
